ABOUT ROWES WHARF BOSTON

General Information
Rowes Wharf is a popular transportation and entertainment hub that was reconstructed in 1987 to meet Boston residents' demands for revitalizing the area around Boston Harbor. It is located about 10 blocks east of Boston's financial district near Atlantic Avenue.

History
Boston residents can trace the history of Rowes Wharf back to the 1630s when English colonists constructed a fort on the property. The fort would become a mainstay on the property until the 1680s when John Rowe constructed the first wharf near the property.

The area around the wharf saw rapid growth during the 1880s when railroad and subway service was established near the wharf's main entrance. The area around Rowes Wharf would continue to prosper during the first half of the 20th century when Boston residents discovered the area's potential as an entertainment and shopping destination.

The area around Rowes Wharf was nearly abandoned in the early 1980s when railroad and subway service was diverted to other areas around Boston Harbor. However, the area has seen an increase in popularity after it was reconstructed in the 1980s. This increase in popularity has been spearheaded by local business leaders who have developed the area around the wharf into one of Boston's most popular shopping and entertainment destinations.

Marina
Rowes Wharf features a marina that is a prime entertainment and shopping destination. The area attracts many tourists each year who enjoy the marina's beautiful views of Boston Harbor.

Water Transportation Terminal
Rowes Wharf's water transportation terminal is home to several water transportation providers who travel to Boston's northernmost neighborhoods. It is located west of Rowes Wharf's stores and restaurants near Atlantic Avenue. It is open each day from 5 a.m.- 9 p.m.

Floating Concert Space
Rowes Wharf features a floating concert space that can be reserved for special events. It hosts several free concerts and movies during the summer. It also hosts several holiday events during the winter.

Parking Information
There is a parking garage located next to the water transportation terminal that offers visitors short-term and long-term parking options. It is open 24 hours a day for your convenience. Visitors may purchase parking passes for the parking garage by visiting the kiosks located to the right of the water transportation terminal.
